About Event

Join us this Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at 9pm EST, as we present our next Artist Talk with Stan Kuiperi.

About Stan Kuiperi:

Stan Kuiperi (Aruba 1954) is one of Aruba’s pioneer visual art educators.

As an Art Education Professor, he holds a Dutch HBO Master in Art Education (MEd) degree, with an Art History license. He has studied in Aruba, Puerto Rico, the USA and the Netherlands, and has lived and worked in France before re-establishing in Aruba in the early 1980’s.

Besides his twenty-plus years of full-time employment in formal arts education, he has dedicated equal time to artistic activity and life-long community-based contributions to artistic/cultural development projects.

The Visual Arts:

His abstract paintings, exhibited for more than 40 years in local and international galleries, museums and corporate and private collections, have greatly contributed to the actual development of local artists and to the general public awareness of the visual arts. Stan Kuiperi’s artwork has been exhibited in over sixty individual and collective art shows locally and internationally, including five international art biennials. His work appears in many local and international publications, television and video programs, and art collections.

Stan Kuiperi’s paintings are mostly known for his charged, desert islandscapes full of universal life energy. He has lately focused on the local tall Aruban cactus to create awareness of the natural environment, and on the native cave petrographs of Aruba to re-interpret Aruba’s original cultural legacy. ‘Time for Earth’ for the Cathedral of Thorns in Curaçao (2020) is one of his latest 3-dimensional works.

Arts/Cultural activity, 1980’s – present:

He is founder/co-founder of organizations, local and international foundations, online art communities, consultancies, and recent online platforms such as Artviews Aruba, and co-producer of large-budget international, professional-level festivals. He is a speaker at local and international conferences, and has held the position of Cultural Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister at the Ministry of General Affairs (2010-2014). He recently wrote the first-ever biographical book about an Aruban artist, The Art of Padú Lampe.

In 2012 he received the Dutch royal knighthood decoration of Ridder in de Orde van Oranje Nassau for his continued work in the arts, education and culture.
